Project overview

Image
It is hard to believe that this edition of REMAINING: Treasure of Memory has concluded. It has been such an amazing experience and greatly appreciated by the neighbors on Cedarwoods Way. "Utility Pole #4" I do feel it brought so many people closer. People who were ready to be around others after months of isolation. Many people walked and drove Cedarwoods looking at all the historic images. Each image with it's own story and connection to a household on our street.   "Merly Lopez and cousin" I will continue to collect stories of these people who got to spend 4 days with us. Though it was only their photographic images, I feel that as long as we remember them...they are with us. "Ester Barrios" I have been encouraged to promote this project and seek other areas where such an exhibition would help build community through local histories.  Show of the Children's drawings of their families. For now this first edition of REMAINING: Treasure of Memory ...

A full Saturday on Cedarwoods Way

What an amazing day today. The day started by hanging the photographs as I do every morning. Then I was fortunate enough to be asked by Susan Katz of Art Prospect to do an Instagram Live Stream interview which was a first for me and took a few minutes to connect. The interview starts around 6:02 minutes. https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instagram.com%2Ftv%2FCGcy2iWIope%2F%3Futm_source%3Dig_web_copy_link%26fbclid%3DIwAR0doZkCyf4COVQonY2IlJb1PxWg_vnIsEstUH8fxSJqMpsQIfiNIglIp2k&h=AT2YN5PcQv47pPRH_fVgNiMsL3quMLUgefINctyawUXX9fdFFHOg5OMYFbEnvmO0bE8a_wQ-IyQZDhPrdnefnJp8lfRH_-Lw5nwmP7BzbhfzkmuOpUDvazFwi3FgxE3J6Pa5rzGsng1TW2JBTw&__tn__=-UK-R&c[0]=AT3gaaNH9rKHWH7M1qtZCHAZrcmytkMgjvu1ZKn08nn9mQJdW089FYr7uPJwTn7bq8XpizUhiluNGsrajAETbrFRqNfWaNehwEaa4skT_TQ70_ZvbQHdQlgP5q5jsPmx-5yXlaSAbNXKmqcLoWPAVkhtt4gipctpH4B1LGau-OLeyI4W_Inv Several people visited the installations today.  From 3pm until 6pm was the "Draw Your Family" event for the children affiliated with...

REMAINING: Treasure of Memory, Day 2

Image
Utility Pole #1   Yesterday proved to be an interesting day on Cedarwoods Way. Utility Pole #2 I saw many people out on the street looking at the installations on the 7 utility poles. Utility Pole #3 I was thanked by 4 different people for honoring their departed and even the mail delivery lady was interested in this community building idea. Utility Pole #4 Several children asked me about the "Draw Your Family" children's event for Saturday at 3pm. Utility Pole #5 The weather is perfect and a great opportunity for all to drive or stroll by this exhibition. Utility Pole #6 Continue to visit this blog for updates and information. Utility Pole #7 Sad to report some of these images and all frames were destroyed by a car during the daily installation.

Utility Pole #5 Today is the first day of the installed community project reflecting the history, heritage, and diversity of our street, Cedarwoods Way. Utility Pole #1 The installation, on 7 utility poles along our street, will be on view through October 18. Utility Pole #4 Please follow this blog as this project unfolds and more images are highlighted.

3 Days Until Install

Image
Tim 1963  I am so excited to be able to produce a show that includes so many of my neighbors from Cedarwoods Way. Hearing their stories and learning more about their lives and histories makes me happy to live in such a diverse community.  In total I have collected 36 images. They are now framed and ready to be installed. Pole #3 Vignette Signs have been printed and will also be installed on Thursday morning along with the photographs. Mother - Cristina Garcia I expect there will be more images added once other folks see the impact of this collection. Please continue to visit the blog for updates as this unfolds.

Second Notice to Participate

Image
Studio view of many of the framed images Today the framing of more historic images continues in the studio. Final notices went out in order to participate in the exhibition. Yard signs were installed and information sheets were delivered door to door. Tomorrow framing will continue.  Art supplies have been purchased for the Saturday Children's Event. It is exciting to see how a project that was created to highlight my time of reflection during quarantine has expanded to include all the 17 households on Cedarwoods Way.

More beautiful images arrive

As the installation for "Remaining - Treasure of Memory." gets closer, more neighbors are dropping off images to be framed. Thus far most these images are of family members who have passed away. Many families have few images making the presented photographs more precious. "Isabel Hernandez (Grandmother) - Huejutla de Reyes, Hidalgo, Mexico" Today, I will be visiting each of the houses who have not submitted photographs to make sure they are invited a second time. What was once a photographic history of my personal story has grown to include the 17 households located on my street - Cedarwoods Way. This community exhibition will open on October 15 from 8am until 6pm and run through October 18, 2020. On Saturday, October 17 from 3pm-6pm, I will set up tables in the front yard and invite the children from our street to come by and draw their families. These images will also be included in this blog. I will supply all art materials, drinks and snacks while encouraging ...
